From Then … ‘Til Now

 

Rev. Gilbert Johnstone, a board member of the Valley School for Exceptional Children and a parent of a child with a disability, worked with six leading citizens of Batavia to promote the idea of opening a sheltered workshop for the students after they aged out of the school. Valley Sheltered Workshop opens on May 9, 1966 at 4 N. River Street in Batavia. Bob Bina (shop consultant) brings a bin of work from Furnas Electric Company for the employees to work on. Rev. Gilbert Johnstone (founder/director) and Earl Slogett Sr. (shop supervisor) look on.
