The donations we receive from our community allow us to continue to expand our reach and services to meet the needs of our partners. We are able to invest in new equipment and technology, provide training and development opportunities, and support our partners in finding permanent employment.

Community support also enables us to provide a safe and inclusive environment for our partners, as well as ensure that our programs are accessible to all individuals who need them.

We are grateful for the generosity of our community, which shares in our mission to empower individuals with disabilities and provide them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Our community’s support allows us to make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.

What We Do

VSW has built relationships with local organizations to create a safe environment for individuals with disabilities to participate in work. Through the support of the local community, VSW continues to expand its services and collaborate to meet the needs of its partners, helping them to achieve independence and fostering hope. VSW is dedicated to providing a permanent supportive work environment and is a vital part of the community for people with disabilities.

Our Story

Valley Sheltered Workshop (VSW) has provided dignity for individuals with disabilities in the Fox Valley area since 1966. Founded by Rev. Gilbert Johnstone, a Batavia minister whose son had a disability and would soon be exiting the school system, and 6 other local business people, they created the Workshop based on a mission statement that focused on helping the attendees to achieve their highest potential in all aspects of their lives through friendship, learning and earning an income. VSW continues to remain a crucial resource for 11,000 individuals in Illinois who rely on sheltered workshops for support.

How We Are Making an Impact

VSW, through its longtime relationships, such as life-sustaining grants from local organizations, charitable contributions from friends and neighbors, and support from its business partners that utilize services provided by sheltered workshops, VSW continues to support and build independence for adults with disabling conditions. VSW counts on the community’s continued support to bring dignity and purpose to the individuals they serve daily.
